Run With Your Hound April 2018 for Trailhound Welfare
- March 21, 2018
Hello all you lovely runners! It’s time to sign up for the “Lakeland Trailhound Welfare April 2018 Virtual ‘Run As Far as You Can with Your Hound'” event. The fee is £10 per person (details below) with all profits going to LTW.
How it works: In April, add up all the miles that you run with your hound (or honorary hound) in the month – there is no maximum or minimum distance; at the end of the month, post a photo of you and your dog, with your total mileage on the LTW Facebook Page. We will send you a specially designed medal to celebrate your effort. We will also plot the grand total and see how far collectively we have all run.
Paypal to email@example.com OR online/telephone banking to Lakeland Trailhound Welfare, sort code 20-66-97, a/c 43450007
When you have paid your £10, email firstname.lastname@example.org with your address. (If you wish to pay by cheque then email your address and we will send you the contact address.)
Your medal will be posted out after you post your photo and final mileage on LTW’s Facebook page. Happy running with your pooch!

Thank you to the BHTA – £400 raised for LTW
- November 15, 2017
Many thanks to the Borders Hound Trailing Association for their kind donation of £400 raised on the Sandale trails on 8th October 2017. Donations such as these help towards our vet bills for hounds that we rehome. Some people went along with their retired hounds. We even sent someone to meet the hounds who is strongly interested in adopting, and we are following up with homing a Border hound to them.
THANK YOU for your support for Laddie
- July 20, 2017
Laddie is a lovely 10 year old hound who came into Trailhound Welfare in December 2016, for rehoming. Older hounds can take a bit longer to be adopted and he has been in a foster home while he waits. In July 2017, Laddie had to have his spleen removed as lesions were detected on it. They turned out to be non cancerous and Laddie is fighting fit again. We put out an appeal on Facebook for donations towards his vet bills which were over £800. We were blown away by all the support and raised an amazing £930 in just over a week. The BHTA (Border Hound Trailing Association, which is where Laddie raced for 8 years) raised £260 of the total. We are so grateful to everyone who helped us to cover the costs. If you would like to know more about Laddie, visit our rehoming page.
Weekend fun in Cumbria
- June 25, 2017
On 10th/11th June we had a fun weekend in Cumbria. Braving the wet weather 16 hounds with their owners came to watch a hound trail in the beautiful fells near Keswick. We had a fun show with the Best in Show title going to Paula Ball with Heidi. Thank you to the Keswick area HTA and to Victor Brownlee for judging the show. Thank you also to Bill Huddart for kindly donating a cheque to LTW for £30. On the Sunday a small group with their hounds went for a lovely walk around Buttermere.
We unveiled our new banner at the show. Lakeland Trailhound Welfare (formerly Trailhound Trust) has been homing hounds since 1997 so this year we asked you for your photos to put on a commemorative banner. We went big! The eye catching banner is 3m x 1.2m and we got over 120 hounds on it. We have homed over 1500 hounds since our inception and interest in the breed is ever widening. The banner will be used at various fundraising events. Click on the photo to enlarge.

Vinnie trailhound donates blood to save a life!
- March 8, 2017
Vinnie trailhound came to the rescue of a sick dog who was in desperate need of a blood transfusion. He answered the call of help from his vet Jon Slattery at Best Friends Veterinary Surgery, in Worcester Road, Malvern Link.
Mr Slattery had a very ill patient in dire need of a blood transfusion to save her life and called upon Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter to ask for help. He knew Vinnie was in excellent health and fulfilled donor criteria to be able to urgently donate blood to help his fellow dog.
Vinnie got an extra treat and has now been happily rehomed. FULL STORY
