ENTRIES FOR OUR 2024 CALENDAR TO BE IN BY 30th SEPTEMBER 2023

Just to let you know that I’m helping out the over-worked calendar elves again this year, and will be collecting photographs of your beautiful boys and girls, along with a couple of sentences with funny facts, hilarious habits, or houndy howlers. Seasonal pictures would be good, (and will help me a lot in the design process!), photos of your hounds enjoying sports would be great, action shots, anything which shows them off! If you can, please include pet name, racing name, age/date of birth, “gotcha day”, where they were re-homed from, etc.
*PLEASE NOTE: photographs will need to be high resolution and full-size. Images taken from social media pages will not be adequate for printing, sadly.
Please email your photos and info to me: emilysavage80@gmail.com
⭐️ DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF PHOTOS: 30th SEPTEMBER ⭐️
I look forward to hearing from you and admiring all of your lovely hounds! Emily Savage

2022 REVIEW

*  LTW has helped 44 trailhounds during 2022.
*  We have found 27 fantastic private retirement homes.
*  We have sent a further 16 hounds to trusted rehoming centres. Homing via these centres helps us greatly to find new converts to the breed.
*  We have one hound with us in foster whilst he recuperates fully from a leg operation.
Some of our summer fundraising events were adversely affected by the weather….not the usual rain but the extreme heat! That was a first! We sold a record breaking 200 LTW calendars in 2022. We also attended the Keswick Victorian Fayre for the first time, which was very successful.
*  LTW is run by a small team of trustees with amazing support from volunteers and well wishers. We thank everyone who gives their time and support, mostly quietly and behind the scenes. We are truly indebted to you all.
*  PEOPLE WISHING TO ADOPT AND HOUND TRAILERS WISHING TO REHOME THEIR HOUNDS – check out our homing page on our website for lots more information about how we can help. Details here: https://www.trailhoundwelfare.org.uk/category/hounds/
🌈 Please take a moment to remember some of the lovely hounds who our friends have lost in 2022. 🌈

Eileen Robinson

We are very sad to announce that our dear friend Eileen Robinson passed away on Friday 25th February after a short illness. Eileen was instrumental from the inception of Lakeland Trailhound Trust in 1997, in promoting and rehoming many, many hundreds of hounds all over the country. Trailers and adopters alike are indebted to the help and support Eileen gave them over the years. Our sincere condolences go to Eileen’s family.

Eileen’s funeral will take place on Monday 14th March 2022 at 12.30pm at St Hilda’s Church, Bilsborrow Lane, Bilsborrrow, nr Preston, Lancs PR3 0RP. Then afterwards at The Roebuck pub PR3 0RE. Anyone wishing to attend should email Eileen’s daughter Sharon by 7th March at shazzy118118@gmail.com

There will be a Book of Remembrance for people to write in at the funeral. If anyone cannot make the funeral, there will be an opportunity to send their memories to Eileen’s family. It will be a wonderful keepsake for them. Please email us at trailhoundwelfare@hotmail.co.uk  if you wish to add something to the Book of Remembrance and we will pass it on.

Understanding Your Pet Trailhound by Emily Savage

Trailhound owner Emily Savage has recently written a very comprehensive book about Trailhounds. Every home should have one!

The books are priced at £16.99 plus £3.70 for 2nd class p+p (based on one book per package, within UK). Emily is very generously making a donation to Lakeland Trailhound Welfare for every copy that is sold.

Contents include:
An exploration of the breed
A look at their suitability for re-homing as a pet, and why they might be re-homed
A history of the sport of hound trailing, what it looks like today, and what training involves
The work of Lakeland Trailhound Welfare
Some wonderful tales from the families of retired hounds
The transition from fellside to fireside
Guidance on training life skills and managing common challenges
Providing enrichment through scentwork
Not to mention, some fabulous colour photography!

If you would like to buy a copy, please contact Emily direct. You can contact her via Facebook messenger (messages may not be visible if you are not fb friends), through the Norfolk Unofficial Trailhounds Group page, or email emilysavage80@gmail.com

With thanks and best wishes, Emily.

Thank you HTA

Thank you to the Hound Trailing Association for a £100 donation. We appreciate this as these are difficult times for all charitable organisations, whose fund raising has been extremely curtailed by Covid-19. We are still rehoming hounds and our primary costs are vet bills, so all donations are very welcome.

Donation from Les Tyson estate

Earlier this year, sadly, a well known houndtrailer from Ulverston, Les Tyson, passed away.  Les had always been a firm supporter of the work of Lakeland Trailhound Welfare and, over the years, several of his hounds had been rehomed through us.  We were very surprised and pleased to receive a donation of £400 recently from the family and executors of Les’ estate, in recognition of the Trailhound rehoming work we did for Les.  It was a very much appreciated gift that will be put to good use and we have thanked them for their generosity.
