Rannouch needs your help!
Rannouch is an 11 year old hound waiting for his forever home. He is currently living with another hound at Teckels Animal Sanctuary in Gloucs. Rannouch has been diagnosed with a degenerative condition in one leg and has had a major operation to alleviate his pain and restore him to full health. The operation has cost £700 and with extras added it stands at £1200!
We are doing car boots sales to raise the money for Rannouch's operation. If you can help by doing a fundraising event or by donation of money or saleable items, please email Eileen on eileen.robinson1@homecall.co.uk or ring 01995 643351.
You can also donate via PAYPAL - more details HERE

Dogs Trust shows 2008

We have had an information stall at a number of Dogs Trust shows this summer. The interest in trailies has been fantastic. Thanks very much to Tina, Nigel and Mel who have supported all the shows with their lovely hounds, Ben and Dan.  Also helping were Helen and Simon with Zuzy Soo. Helen even managed to persuade a local TV station to interview us about trailhounds and why we love them so much!

Peter and Mandy win IFAW award

On 14th October, as part of IFAW’s Animal Action Week, twelve animal heroes, including one dog (Mandy trailhound), were honoured for their achievements on behalf of animal and people.

The ceremony was hosted by Baroness Gale at the House of Lords and presented by IFAW patron, actress and model Lisa B.

Twice Mandy has saved Peter, once when a fire broke out in his house and more recently when he collapsed while walking and she went to raise the alarm. Well done Mandy!

Danni - An Inspirational Story

Danni and his owner were involved in a big car accident this year. They have helped each other to recover and have recently passed their assessment to do PAT (Pets as Therapy) work.

Read their inspirational story HERE (get your hankies ready!)

Training Recall in Malvern, Worcs

When you first adopt a hound we advise you to train recall in a safe and secure area. If you have recently adopted a hound in the Worcs area, you may like to support WARS (Worcs Animal Rescue Shelter) by practising recall in their secure exercise enclosures. They charge £1 per 15 minutes. You can book any day between 9am and 11am, or 3pm and 4pm. Ring 01905 831651. WARS is based just outside Malvern on the A449 Worcester road.
Dogs using the facility must be up to date with vaccinations.

Training Recall

Maisie's Blog
July 2008
I live in the house with my companions Alfie a girl who is retired, aged 5 and Star, aged 2. Normally racing trailhounds live in a kennel but we prefer to live in the house and we all snuggle up together and also with our cat.
I won a race a few weeks ago and then at a big trail I came second. My favourite things to eat are sugar puffs for my breakfast and I just love honey especially on toast. I also love gingerbread and I get a piece of this when I have raced in a trail.
Some people think that all racing trailhounds live in a kennel but some of us live in the house and we are all house trained and we sleep in the spare bedroom at night and we think we are very lucky to have such a comfortable life. I will keep everyone updated and let you know how my racing goes.

Hound sitting in Gloucestershire?

We have Tammy (adopted in 2007). Looking ahead to holidays, we wonder if anybody would be prepared to have Tammy in return for a reciprocal arrangement with your Trailie when you go on holiday (or even just a weekend away).

We live near Stroud in Gloucestershire and obviously the logistics need to be considered if this is a feasible idea. Tammy is well behaved and very sociable but does need 2 - 3 walks a day.  We would be very interested to hear from you.  Jon & Yvonne Email

Laurence - Blood donor!

Laurence has recently become a blood donor. Is this a first for trailhounds?

Anyone willing to have their dog donate blood should contact their vet. There is now a donor register.

Congratulations, Sally, for achieving your GOLD Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Award in April 2007!
