Trailhounds looking for loving homes

Here are some of the trailhounds currently available for adoption. We work closely with the racing owners to help find suitable retirement homes, and are able to supply a full history of each hound, e.g whether they have lived with children, cats, etc. We take in up to 40 hounds a year; many we home ourselves while some go to reputable rehoming centres. Hounds are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. We usually visit you in your home so that we can answer any questions. There is a £200 adoption donation. We offer 1 month free insurance with PETPLAN Insurance. If you are new to trailhounds, please carefully read our FAQ and training page to be sure that a trailhound is the right breed for you. Although we are based in Cumbria, we home hounds throughout the country.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? – Contact us and we will send you a pre adoption form to start the process. Once we know what you are looking for, we can see if we have a match. If you are interested in a hound listed below that is in another rehoming centre, contact the centre directly to register interest – their own homing criteria will apply.

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING? – We are looking for people to welcome a hound, short term, into their home to help transition them from a racing life to an individual pet life. Guidelines and support will be given. We welcome enquiries to foster, preferably within Cumbria, but may consider further afield. If you have experience with hounds then please drop us an email for more details.

HOUND TRAILERS – Please ring Sue or Barbara if you have a hound you wish to rehome.
We can offer the following options:
* We can find a home privately for your hound (either with it staying with you until adopted OR for it to come into our care until adopted).
* We can send your hound to a trusted external rehoming centre, in which case they take over sole responsibility for it. We have been lucky to be supported by these centres for many years, and they find fantastic homes.
* If you decide to find a retirement home yourselves without our input, we are still happy to pay for neutering, and to assist with home checks, if you require it.
* If you have a hound that needs to come in urgently, we are always happy to try and help without a long wait.
* If you have a hound with a racing injury, please get in touch. We have previously found great homes for hounds, including amputees, once we have had their vet work done. We are happy to cover vet costs.

Jim, aged 32 months

Lovely Jim will be 3 in February 2027. He is a confident and outgoing boy who has lost interest in being a racing dog. Jim is good with livestock and other dogs. He has not met cats. Jim is currently in southwest area of Cumbria with his racing family. He may be a good prospect for someone who enjoys running with their dog. Please contact us for more details about Jim.

Fizz, aged 20 months

14/10/2026 UPDATE Meet sweet girl, Fizz who is 20 months old. Fizz is with us in foster in north Cumbria. She is a shy but playful girl who has previously lived around dogs, farm animals, horses etc. Fizz lacks confidence in some new situations so is looking for a calm person who will support her to get used to new experiences. Fizz loves being outside playing with other dogs so would really benefit from living with a friendly, confident dog. Fizz has been clean in the home since being with us so her house training is coming along well. She travels well in a car. She will need a secure garden to enjoy playing in.

Pepsi aged 32 months

Lively boy Pepsi will be 3 in February 2027. He is currently living in north Cumbria with his racing owner. Pepsi is a happy boy who is full of life. He would suit an active home with good fencing. Pepsi will benefit from some loose lead training as he is always excited to explore his surroundings. He is a cheerful and loveable boy.

Ricky aged 6 yrs

Meet lovely boy, Ricky who is 6 years old. Ricky is a friendly boy who loves going for walks. Ricky is currently living with his racing owners in west Cumbria. Although he lives in a kennel, he regularly goes into the house too. Ricky lives with cats and is not at all bothered by them. We visited Ricky to take him for a walk and found him to be very engaging. He loved a kiss and a cuddle. Ricky will be neutered prior to rehoming.

Bella aged 8 and Mo aged 7

Bella and Mo are currently with their racing owner in west Cumbria. We are looking for separate homes for them.

Bella is just 8 years young. She is a gentle and friendly hound. She currently lives on a farm in west Cumbria with a variety of other animals. She will make a lovely pet for someone looking for a slightly older hound. We went for a walk with her family recently and she was very good on a lead. She is pictured with Dan who is one of her friends at the farm.

Mo is 7 years old. (tri colour in photo). She is a little bit shy and may be happier living with another dog. She is a very sweet hound who would love a sofa to cuddle up on.

Buster aged 6 years

18/10/2026 WE ARE FOLLOWING UP WITH AN ENQUIRY FOR BUSTER Buster is a lemon/white 6 year old boy who has just retired from his racing life. Buster is with us in a foster home and is getting used to all the new experiences. He is getting on with the hound he is living with, as well as the dogs he meets when out and about. Buster loves a long walk then getting cosy on the armchair for a snooze. He has taken to living in a house full time like duck to the water! He loves it. Buster is showing signs of having very good recall in secure fields, although it is too early to let him loose in open fields until we know for sure he will come to his name.

Buster recently went on a trip to Keswick on his own with his handler. Nothing seems to faze or worry him. Buster travels well in the car. He was keen to explore the busy town which was packed with people and dogs. He loved walking along the lakeside, checking out all the smells.

Buster is just the loveliest boy, happy-go-lucky and friendly with everyone he meets. He could live with children who are comfortable around a friendly dog. We could cat test him, if required. Bob, aged 5 and half, at WARS rehoming centre in Malvern, Worcs

Bob is a lovely boy 5 and half year old boy who recently retired from racing and is now on the lookout for a home to call his very own. Bob is truly a lovely boy, and we hope to see him curled up in a cosy home very soon. If you think he could be the one for you then please apply today.

Maya, aged 3 years

14/09/2026 Maye has a viewing booked Maya is a very friendly and exuberant 3 year old hound. She is quite small stature. Maya loves to run around and would be great fun for someone with an active lifestyle. She may be a good candidate for someone who enjoys running with their dog. Maya gets on well with other dogs. She has not really been around cats although we could cat test her if required. She could live with children who would be confident around a lively dog. Maya is currently with her owners in north Cumbria. We will be arranging neutering etc very soon. We have homed 2 of her brothers this year and they were lovely boys too.

Val aged 18 months

05/10/2026 VAL HAS GONE ON A HOME TRIAL Say hello to lovely young lady Val who is just 18 months old. She has decided that racing is not for her so is looking for a 5 star home. Val gets on well with dogs and has also been happy around cats in her home. She is currently in north Cumbria. We will be arranging for Val to be neutered prior to rehoming but are taking enquiries in the meantime. We have homed 2 of Val’s brothers this year and they both had lovely temperaments too.

When we went to meet Val to get photos, she was very happy to meet us and go for a short walk. She was inquisitive in everything around her and very happy to pose for the camera. She has a calm disposition and could live with children. Feel free to contact us for more information.
