We have a secret, you and I, that no one else shall know,
For who but I can see you lie each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand before we go to bed
And feel the living warmth of you and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths and see ahead of me,

‘Twas Christmas Eve morn with a dawn sky aglow

There was frost on the ground and a sprinkling of snow

We all slumbered on, keeping warm in the bed

Dreaming of Christmas: Sue, Woody and Meg

A sharp knock on the door gave us all a surprise

On the doorstep stood Santa with a tray of mince pies

Unknown to me, way back in May

Woody applied to be Santa’s Helper, pulling his sleigh

He’s only been accepted, my very Best Boy!

Delivering gifts the world over, bringing happiness and joy

So off you go, Woody, with a jingling of bells

Safe journey. See you tomorrow when you return to the fells.

Wizarding Woody goes to Dogwarts

Well, I have some exciting news for you since I last posted. I am now a wizard-in-training at Dogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Muggle Meg is very envious but sadly she just doesn’t have that magic touch. I make it up to her by bringing Dobby home during school holidays – Meg loves going for walks with Dobby! Foster parents extraordinaire!

Me and Meg have been foster parents to lots of hounds. It has been great fun, showing them the ropes and going on long walks on the fells with them. We currently have Choc with us until he find his amazing home. Here are just a few new friends who stayed with us this year.

Woody the Wuss

I am not gonna lie – I am a wuss when it comes to snappy, yappy little dogs. So when I heard Rusty was coming to stay for a few weeks, I wasn’t too impressed. Rusty lives with Sue’s mum and pretty much rules the roost there. Lots of trailhounds have an overnight stay at Rusty’s house and every single one has backed down to him. However, I have to admit, it was quite fun having him stay here and he wasn’t too grumpy, even when I bowled him over accidentally in the long grass.

Woody’s Winter Wonderland

The 2017/2018 winter was great as Meg and I had loads of fun playing in the snow. I may be middle aged now but the snow always brings out the puppy in me! Watching Sue fall on her bum was pretty hilarious too. Then there was the day she lost her glasses in the snow on the farm, and had to wait for the melt before she found them! Hope you all enjoyed it too.

Hello everyone. I thought it was time I gave you all an update. I am doing well. I went back to the Royal Dick Vet Hospital for a 6 months check up recently, and was given a clean bill of health. I am still sharing my life with Meg: we are very close, especially when she clambers all over me for a cuddle! We also have a lovely boy called Laddie living with us, while he waits for a very special person to adopt him. Read all about him on our rehoming page. We are all the best of friends and squeeze in the car together to go on adventures. We have been going along to shows to promote trailhounds as pets and everyone falls in love with us. Do you want the good news or the bad news?

Sue felt I was lonely living on my own without Lotty. Recently, a lovely 7 year old hound called Meg came in for rehoming and we got on so well that she is staying as my companion. Meg, who raced as Tiagress, is very tactile and loves to snuggle up and use me as a pillow. So that was my good news.

My bad news is that in September a tumour was found in my mouth. Although benign, it had no room to grow so needed to be removed. On 19/10/16 I went into Edinburgh Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital to have the tumour and about 7cms of my lower jaw bone removed. As you can imagine, I am very down in the dumps right now. The vet told Sue that I may have a slight permanent dribble and my tongue may sometimes droop out. I don’t know how that will go down with the ladies. Ooops – sorry Meg, I know I shouldn’t be playing the field now you are here! Anyway, here is a lovely photo of me in the spring in the bluebells and one taken recently with Meg. Plus one with me wearing a cone of shame!

On the 6th May 2016 my lovely companion, Lotty went over the Rainbow Bridge. We have had a wonderful time together for the last 7 years but at the age of 16, she was too tired and her legs had become too weak for her to carry on. Take care, my sweet girl. Run fast and free over the fells.
